PCS Training
The PCS MoJ Group regularly contributes to debates about skills and professional training and development within the MoJ through bodies such as the Sector Skills Council for the Justice Sector.
PCS provides training for branch and workplace reps. This training is based on the skills needed to carry out the branch roles, from recruitment and communication skills to negotiating with employers or representing individual members. These courses can be arranged on a branch or regional basis further information can be accessed through this link
MoJ Group also encourages active members to attend TUC and GFTU training courses. The TUC runs union representative and safety rep training courses, which are locally based and run for 10 days on a day per week basis during normal academic terms. Paid time off from work can be arranged for members wishing to attend these courses.
The GFTU is a trade union training trust and offers weekend training courses on a residential basis on trade union issues but also offer a variety of subjects such as IT skills, equality issues, public speaking and using the media. Courses are advertised on a regular basis through liaison officers or by visiting the GFTU website http://www.gftu.org.uk/
Learning reps
The PCS MoJ Group has a network of learning reps who are advocates for learning. Their role is to talk to members and employers; encouraging members to access learning and persuading managers to think imaginatively about assisting staff take up learning opportunities. Learning reps have legal rights for paid time-off for training.
